May 31, 1934 - October 29, 2016
Concord, Massachusetts | Age 82
On Saturday, October 29, 2016 John Gally Junior passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Concord, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was 82.
John was the loving husband of 52 years of Suzanne C. Gally, brother to Hilde Kahl (William Kahl), father of three sons Keith Gally (Christine Rodrigues), Brian Gally (Margaret St. John) and Mark Gally (Susan Donahoe) and cherished grandfather of Andrew, Christopher, Mitchell, Hannah, John Thomas and Emma.
John was born in Forberg, Slovakia at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, son to the late John Gally Senior and Emilie Schwartz. After WWII, John immigrated with his family from behind the Iron Curtain to safety in West Germany, then to freedom in the United States and settled in Bethel Connecticut. Thrown into high school, learning English along the way, John ultimately graduated with an Associates degree from Danbury Teacher's College and with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. It was at the University of Connecticut that he met his wife Suzanne. He went on to co-found Arrowhead Enterprises in 1965, an innovator in the design and manufacture of security equipment, employing over 300 in New Milford, CT. John was forever grateful of the opportunities afforded those in the United States and instilled in everyone around him a dedicated work ethic, the importance of education and the desire to give back.
John raised his family in Warren, CT, passing along a passion for skiing both on the water and on the snow. Frequent ski trips to Vermont were filled with more frequent stops for coffee along the way. He was forever buying sweets and doing his best to give them away. You could never leave a dinner without a basket full of provisions, just in case dinner wasn't enough.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19th at 3:00pm at the Duvall Chapel of Newbury Court, 80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:
