Condolence & Memory Journal

I worked with Astrid and have nothing but fond memories. She was smart, professional and a great co-worker. But she topped it off by being a genuinely warm and kind person. She contributed a lot to the world and will be missed.

I just learned of Astrid's passing. She was a law school friend I lost track of until she became the DOT Commissioner in NYS. It was wonderful to see her again and we got a group of friends together to celebrate her rediscovery. She was the same beautiful, funny, smart, interesting and kind person we had all remembered her to be. So glad we got to see her again, and so sorry for the sad news. My sympathy goes out to her family and friends; I know she was a particularly lovely part of your lives.

Astrid's death is a great loss to Boston Harbor and the new generations of water transportation that are providing links between Boston and other harbor communities, as well as towns on the South Shore, in Massachusetts Bay and up to the North Shore. As one of an all-woman consultant team who worked with Astrid on the Massachusetts Ferry Project in 1997, it was a delight to have as a client someone who actually understood that the Commonwealth's navigable waterways were available rights of way for transit. She delighted in history and the stories and lore of the Harbor. She was fun to work with, and she was very effective. We were so proud of her when she went off to run transportation in New York. I hope that when the ferries are back to full operation in the Boston area and throughout Massachusetts Bay that the Commonwealth might name one of the ferry terminals or landings for Astrid, who did so much to advocate for ferries over the years. Fair winds and following seas, dear Astrid. Thank you for your extraordinary public service. I miss knowing that you are there keeping an eye on things of the waterfront, but hope you'll exercise your good heavenly persuasion.

I was so sorry to read of Astrid’s passing. Astrid was my boss at EOT. She was a wonderful boss and mentor. I admired her intelligence, savvy, and humor. The Glynn family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am saddened to learn about Astrid's death and express my deep condolences to her family and friends. I had a case with Astrid when we were both young lawyers and she was at her father's firm. We were on opposite sides of the case, but nonetheless enjoyed working together and had a warm and friendly relationship that lasted for some years after the case concluded. It was such a pleasure working with Astrid. She was witty and smart and an excellent lawyer and advocate. We were able to do battle on the case but also enjoy each other's company outside the courtroom. Regrettably, we lost touch when she left the practice but I have always remembered our friendship and professional relationship fondly.
