Condolence & Memory Journal

Dear Julia, Ann and Dan,

While there were 21 years between us, most of my memories of your Mom/Sister are from adulthood. As one of the youngest of Deborah's Vaughan cousins, I did not get to experience her visits to the Vaughan Farm as a child but she was very hospitable to my husband and children during our time living in the New England area (MA & NH). Our family (Richard, Kelsey & Justin) enjoyed several visits to the Concord house where my children joined Deborah for a swim in the pool, riding trikes in the driveway and photos on the beautiful boulders in her front yard. We also got to visit while she lived in Boston several times---one time pulling her away from a discussion group which included her friend Nancy Bush Ellis. A visit to her Islesboro Island, Maine home on a sailing trip from our Hingham home, at 6 months pregnant, offered a welcome respite. I always marveled at her fabulous sense of style when it came to interior decorating and stylish dressing and her great sense of adventure in her travel itineraries. She was the last place we visited on our way out to the west coast when we moved to California in 2011. I am so glad we made that stop so that we could visit her in a place that she adored--the Maine House on Langsford Road. I have some lovely photos from that visit that I will have to upload later next year when I retrieve my computer out of storage in CA. Rest in peace, Dear Cousin--your time will fondly be remembered here. ~ Luisa Tassan~ Wilmington, NC

Anne and Julia - It was our pleasure to know your Mom and be welcomed into her family! We always enjoyed spending time together - each time we learned more about her many adventures and those you both afforded her growing up! We will always remember your Mom as a remarkable person! Here's to a life well lived

Met Deborah at the Metropolitan Opera HD broadcasts at Revere Showcase cinemas. We shared an interest in opera and looked forward to watching the Met together. She invited my husband and me to lunch at her home in Maine, and we disappointed her by declining a kayak tour of the harbor. She was a delight to be with and her love of livelong learning was an inspiration!
