Tribute & Message From The Family

Beloved Son, Nephew, Cousin and loyal Friend

Our beloved son Luke passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on December 27, 2019 at the age of 29.

For all who knew him, Luke was a very bright light, full of fun, with many friends he loved and who loved him. He attended the Fenn School Concord MA, Lawrence Academy Groton MA, and the University of Vermont where he graduated in 2013.

Luke had an adventuring spirit and loved to travel. He had spent time in Europe, Australia, Indonesia and Africa and had recently returned from a two-week trip to Namibia as part of his job with Audley Travel . He loved playing soccer, was an avid Boston/New England sports fan, enjoyed anything related to the water, loved animals and nature, and listened to an eclectic assortment of music, both old and new. Luke especially loved spending time with his large group of friends, and he had an enthusiasm for life that was contagious for all who met him.

Luke was very close to his extended family. He is survived by his parents Laura Johnson and Tooey Rogers of Concord MA, his aunts and uncles, and many cousins, who were like brothers and sisters to him. It is impossible for us to describe the joy he brought to us in his 29 years and impossible for us to imagine how we will go on without him.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Luke on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 4:00 pm in Ward Hall at the Fenn School, 516 Monument St., Concord, a reception will follow. Burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge will be private.

Donations in his memory may be made to:

Condolence & Memory Journal

Laura and Tooey- those you met you could feel the love you shared for Luke in every conversation about his future, his travels and the many funny stories you shared. Watching Tooey's face light up at the memories was something I found so much joy in, and I'm so happy to have been able to experience that love alongside yours. I'm so sorry to hear about his passing, and I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Luke was a very close friend when I was growing up and I am devastated to hear this news. Though we grew apart after elementary school, I will never forget the joy he brought to his family and friends whenever I was around him. I was incredibly shy growing up and Luke's exuberant attitude during after-school programs and on the soccer pitch made me want to be like him. My deepest condolences to the Tooey and Laura.

Dear Laura & Tooey, I am so sad to hear this news. I had the pleasure to be able to spend time with Luke and both of you for two weeks in Antarctica. Luke was such a great person to be around, fun, funny and an all around joy. My thoughts are with you and Luke. Wishing you nothing but the best and my deepest sympathy is with you during this difficult time.

Dear Laura and Tooey, I want to say thank you to Luke and to both of you. Many of my favorite memories from growing up came from spending time at your house. I remember so many fun times there- it was such a wonderful place for all of the kids in the neighborhood to meet up. Luke was always in a good mood, full of energy with an unforgettable smile. I remember him as an overwhelmingly positive influence who always led the charge in any fun activity. One of my favorite memories is from a game of football in your yard on a cold winter day. We all had so much fun that we kept playing for hours as it got dark and our fingers became numb. When the group finally came inside, we warmed our hands by the fire and ate dinner you had prepared for us. My thoughts are with you, and thank you again for the memories that I will cherish forever.

Laura and Tooey,
Our family and especially Marissa and Jamie know how lucky we were to have known Luke from his days at Thoreau, to Tuesday club afternoons (nature adventures, ping pong, skiing....), then Rogers Rangers and then as a friend living nearby in Cambridge. We all will miss Luke's wit, energy, commitment to the environment and his joy. His bond with you both and the Rogers clan was special. Sending our love,

Luke was one of the best people I met at UVM. I will always remember his enthusiasm for life and his love for all his family and friends. He truly was and forever will be one of the best people I have ever known. There are so many memories I have with Luke that I just can't pick one. All I can say right now is that I was glad I got to spend time with him this past summer during a trip up to New England. Luke, you will truly be missed dear friend.

Luke was one of my dearest friends growing up. No one had a brighter imagination or greater appetite for fun. I will always cherish the innumerable sleepovers, soccer games in the basement, late night video game sessions, and endless horseplay. To so many of us at Fenn, Luke was a brother and the Rogers' were a second family. Luke was always at the center of the action and operated as the hub of a social circle that was ever-expanding around him. He was the free-spirited connector who brought eclectic personalities together, serving as the impetus for so many enduring friendships between those in his orbit that still live on today. I am tremendously grateful to Luke for this legacy and tremendously grateful to Laura and Tooey for opening their home to Luke's world of friends so graciously over the years. You have my deepest condolences and deepest gratitude.

Before I even read Luke's obituary, I had written my own memories of him down, describing him as one of the brightest lights in my life. It's clear to me he was that for everyone. Luke and I shared some of my most wonderful memories of college, his smile, laughter, and love for life was contagious- there aren't many people like Luke out there who carry a flame of fun and enthusiasm wherever they go. Luke and I once walked out of a particularly depressing lecture in one of our environmental classes we shared together, one of those lectures I came out of feeling particularly hopeless about the state of the world. I asked Luke why we even bother working in the environmental field when the future seemed so hopeless. He told me, "Gota fight the good fight, Sara". Those words were so simple, yet so perfectly like Luke- carefree and positive even in the worst of circumstances. I'll never forget them as I continue fighting "the good fight". The world simply needs more people like Luke. Sending much love and prayers to Luke's family and closest friends. While I cannot imagine a world without him, I will try to honor his joy-filled life by trying to lighten every room I enter and spread nothing but joy, as Luke would and would want us to, keep on keepin' on.

Our hearts are broken for Tooey and Laura as well as Lukes fabulous circle of friends. Luke- your cheerful disposition, zest for life and kindness for all will be sorely missed. The world lost one of the good ones. Its so very hard to comprehend how a kid who had so much to offer this world was taken. ❤
